Join Mothers & Others for Clean Air at the Clean Power Plan Public Hearing in Atlanta on July 29 & 30, 2014!

Earlier this month, President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a groundbreaking Clean Power Plan to cut carbon pollution from the power sector by 30 percent by 2030. Even though they are the single largest source of carbon pollution, there currently are no federal limits on emissions from power plants. The Clean Power Plan is designed to protect public health and fight climate change. The plan is expected to prevent 2,700 to 6,600 premature deaths and 150,000 asthma attacks in children and lead to public health and climate benefits worth an estimated $55 billion to $93 billion.

The EPA is holding four public hearings on the Clean Power Plan, including one in Atlanta. The hearings provide interested parties the opportunity to present data, views or arguments concerning the proposed action. Supporters of Mothers & Others are invited to reserve a five-minute slot to testify at the public hearing on July 29 or 30, 2014 at the Omni Hotel in downtown Atlanta. No special public speaking skills or credentials are needed, and Mothers & Others will be happy to work with you on your testimony and provide any support that you may need. A limited number of speaking slots are available, but registration is not required to attend and listen to the testimony.

EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy explains, “By leveraging cleaner energy sources and cutting energy waste, this plan will clean the air we breathe while helping slow climate change so we can leave a safe and healthy future for our kids. We don’t have to choose between a healthy economy and a healthy environment–our action will sharpen America’s competitive edge, spur innovation, and create jobs.” Join us for this historic opportunity to speak out in favor of clean air.

If you plan on speaking or attending, please send a message to mothers&others@lungse.org to let us know. Help us spread the word by sharing this flyer with your friends and family.
