My Story: Atlanta Pediatrician Talks About the Importance of Clean Air for Her Patients

My name is Nicole Davidson. I am a pediatric resident who first got introduced to M&O through my advocacy rotation. I went into medicine to take care of all of the needs of every child – both inside and outside the office.

Clean air is not just important for me; it is important for all of us. Almost daily I take care of asthmatic children and their families in both clinic, hospital and emergency settings. I was most frightened by a 12 year old who was having an asthma attack. He collapsed in the waiting room with tears streaming down his cheeks as he struggled to breathe. He had to be rushed to a trauma room, but fortunately he was stabilized by the medical team. All of this was the result of him just wanting to play outside with his peers.

We all live on this earth together and having clean air should be a vested interest for not only the children of today, but the children of tomorrow. I support passing legislation to improve air quality and making sure steps are taken on both national and state levels to ensure this.
